OmniCast is used by corporations to distribute a variety of file types. It works only with IP networks; as a practical matter, it will largely be used on Ethernet networks, given the near ubiquity of Ethernet in enterprise networking. Typically, OmniCast video is transmitted through PCs or servers.
Enterprise customers can now use the software to distribute and display video through Amino boxes for replay on office TVs or in-store display monitors, for applications such as distributed e-learning, corporate communications, and associate training.
From their data centers, enterprises can use OmniCast to schedule video distribution jobs. With features such as site-specific bandwidth controls and timed job activation, StrataCache said, companies can deliver videos to branches overnight, thereby saving network bandwidth costs and eliminating congestion during operating hours.
OmniCast support for Amino STBs will be available starting October 30.
