Symmetricom Inc. has appointed James Armstrong to the post of VP of engineering of the company's telecom solutions division.
He most recently served as president of Movidis Inc., a maker of networking equipment for OEM and enterprise markets. Armstrong is also late of pioneer but now-defunct VOD vendor Diva Systems, where he served as VP of software development.
Although Armstrong will be tasked with helping Symmetricom's telco efforts, the vendor is making strides on the cable front, particularly with developments involving the modular cable modem termination system (M-CMTS).
In August, CableLabs awarded qualification to Symmetricom's TimeCreator 1000 DOCSIS Timing Interface (DTI) Server, a key element of the M-CMTS that synchs up the clocks of the system's QAMs and core CMTS elements.
