Vyyo Inc. has introduced a new line of passive devices designed to increase cable spectrum up to 3 GHz.
The new "UltraBand" line includes a raft of taps, splitters and other passive network elements. Although many operators are using techniques such as switched broadcast to conserve bandwidth, Vyyo believes operators will need to expand bandwidth beyond 750 MHz or 860 MHz in order to accommodate the demand for high-definition television and other bandwidth-eating services.
For followers of cable technology, the UltraBand name may be familiar to you. Advent Networks markets a headend-based switch router and access gateway under the same brand name. Advent's "Ultraband" platform provides dedicated access speeds of between 5 Mbps to 40 Mbps over existing HFC networks, and was developed to help operators serve business customers.
