Motorola's Connected Home Solutions division posted Q1 sales of $710 million, up 7 percent from a year ago, citing stronger shipments of voice, video and data infrastructure and customer premises gear.

For the quarter, Motorola said it shipped a record 2 million "digital entertainment devices" (ie. set-tops), a 48 percent increase from the previous quarter. The company also shipped a record 623,000 voice modems for the period, and a total of 2.6 million modems.

The company's networks segment, meanwhile, had sales of $1.43 billion, down 14 percent from a year ago, despite scoring several municipal wireless broadband deals for its MOTOwi4 Canopy platform in partnership with EarthLink and Google.
