Tandberg Television has closed its previously-announced $80 million agreement to buy IPTV equipment specialist SkyStream Networks Inc.

In addition to IPTV headends, SkyStream also markets a "push" VOD system called zBand. The recently- relaunched MovieBeam service is using the zBand system to manage the delivery of movies and other content to a special set-top that enlists datacasting techniques.

Tandberg has said the "push" technology acquired with SkyStream will complement its existing "pull" video-on-demand technology, including the OpenStream backoffice and asset management systems acquired from its purchase of N2 Broadband in early 2005.
