8x8, which operates the Packet8 VoIP and videophone service, will offer the service via the Level(3) E-911 Direct platform, which delivers address-specific and call-back information to Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) when users make an emergency call.
Level3 said its system has connections to PSAPs that serve about 69 percent of all U .S. households. The company also supplies 8x8 with voice call termination, and long distance and local calling support.
Elsewhere on the E911 front, Vonage said it has endorsed the National Emergency Number Association's (NENA's) new interim/migratory (i2) technical standard for VoIP E911.
"Until now, [E911] implementations were disparate, varying county by county, locality by locality," said Vonage Chairman & CEO Jeffrey Citron. The uniform standard will put network owners and service providers "on the same page," he added.
