Under the deal, the MSO will supply access to providers such as AmericanGreetings.com, Fox Sports, and MLB.com via its Cox.net customer portal. Users will be able to access all of that content via a single user ID, password and interface. Synacor has similar deals with MSOs such as Adelphia Communications, RCN Corp., Knology and Armstrong Cable.
Cox's new "Premium Access Pass" will offer two premium content packages: Best of the Web Zone and Sports Zone.
Best of the Web Zone will sell for $7.95 per month, more than $25 less than if a customer were to buy all of the services supplied via separate subscriptions, the company said. That tier will offer access to American Greetings.com, Encyclopaedia Britannica Online, Shockwave.com Gameblast, The Weather Channel, and Fox Sports. The Sports Zone Package, for $9.95 per month, will serve up content from NASCAR.com's TrackPass, MLB.com, SportingNews, Rivals.com, and Fox Sports.
Cox high-speed subs can subscribe to both packages for $16.90 per month.
