Digeo Inc. said it has obtained a license for the OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP), a middleware specified by CableLabs.

Digeo plans to use the license to create OCAP-based set-tops, and noted that it is working with CableLabs on the development of OCAP extensions for a range of media center capabilities, including multi-room digital video recording and "accelerated" 3D rendering.

"Signing this agreement represents Digeo's commitment to be an early adopter and supporter of OCAP," said Digeo CTO Toby Farrand, in a statement.

Earlier this year, Digeo signed the CableLabs CableCARD Host Interface Licensing Agreement (CHILA), which gave the company the ability to interface with devices that support the removable CableCARD security module.
