EarthLink is preparing to test a VoIP/high-speed data double-play in three markets: Dallas, Texas; San Francisco/San Jose, Calif.; and Seattle, Wash.
EarthLink is conducting the trial, to kick off in October, in partnership with CLEC Covad. The VoIP service, to be offered via managed networks rather than the public Internet, will support traditional phone features such as power backup, enhanced 911, and customer calling.
"Partnering with Covad on a market trial of this scale builds upon our existing voice strategy and better positions us to deliver an exciting package of voice and data services," said EarthLink VP of Voice Steve Howe.
EarthLink also has a VoIP reseller agreement with Vonage.
