The Cox Business Services unit of Cox Communications has given the deployment greenlight to Arcwave Inc. 's ARCXtend wireless plant extension platform.
Cox will use the gear to offer DOCSIS-based high-speed services to small- and medium-sized businesses that are presently unreachable by the traditional HFC network.
The MSO made the decision to deploy once field evaluations determined that the Arcwave platform could operate without interfering with existing plant operations.
"ARCXtend provides Cox with the ability to rapidly connect commercial buildings beyond the reach of our HFC network without the delay and expense of digging up streets or deploying aerial fixed lines through a traditional plant extension," said Kristine Faulkner, vice president of product development and management for Cox Business Services.
Arcwave said it now has deployments with nine of the top 13 cable system operators.
