Cox Communications will launch digital telephony service in five new markets in 2005, a move that will expand its telephony footprint to 22 markets, or 70 percent of the MSO's total footprint.

Cox said it will power the launches with VoIP technology, but did not disclose which five markets will offer the service later this year.

Earlier this week, Cox disclosed plans to migrate to VoIP technology in its existing circuit-switched markets via a "hybrid" switch from Nortel Networks.
