BigBand Networks Inc. has unveiled a real-time edge decoding and integrated analog modulation platform aimed for cable digital simulcast deployments.
The platform consists of BigBand's BRD210 GigE decoding chassis and a GFM103 card for the company's flagship BMR (Broadband Multimedia-Service Router) that integrates decoding, modulation and upconversion functions.
The BRD210, developed in conjunction with Ktech Telecommunications Inc., performs decoding for up to 40 analog video outputs with single audio, 20 analog outputs with dual audio, as well as other combinations, BigBand said. Each GFM card, meanwhile, can decode up to six analog channels with modulation, and two-to-one upconversion onto three RF ports of two channels each.
The combo is designed to handle both digital and legacy analog subscriber customers.
To fuel a migration toward all-digital, several operators are planning to move aggressively with digital simulcast deployments, which replicate analog channels in the digital domain.
