Adelphia Communications will feature a wider menu of broadband content for its cable modem customer home page, thanks to a new partnership with Synacor.
Adelphia will tap the Synacor "Portelus" platform to provide a range of services and applications, including news from Associated Press, streaming media clips and a free online photo service.
Synacor, which has scored deployments with MSOs such as Knology and Susquehanna Communications (SusCom), has content relationships with more than 30 suppliers, including NASCAR.com, MusicNow, GameBlast and MLB.com.
Adelphia said it will re-launch and redesign its customer portal as part of a larger plan to bundle together value-added and premium content for its cable modem subscribers. Using Portelus, Adelphia customers will have access to content via a single user-ID and password.
Some operators and ISPs have leveraged Synacor's content to create premium broadband content tiers. SusCom, for example, has been offering two tiers: a $39.95/month offering loaded with Synacor-supplied content, and a basic service for $31.95.
