NTL Inc. may be pulling back its cable telephony plans, but it's full speed ahead when it comes to video-on-demand (VOD).

The U.K.-based MSO said it will team with SeaChange International on a large-scale rollout of the service beginning in the first quarter of 2005.

NTL will complement SeaChange's MediaCluster servers and backoffice platform with digital set-tops from Pace Micro Technology and Samsung. The operator is also partnering with On Demand Group, a London-based programming and content aggregator.

NTL, the largest cable MSO in the U.K., serves about 3 million residential customers, and passes 7.8 million homes in cities such as London, Manchester, Nottingham, Oxford, Cambridge, Cardiff, Glasgow and Belfast.
