HOT, an Israeli cable consortium comprised of Golden Channels, Matav and Tevel, said it will use servers and software from SeaChange International to anchor a rollout of video-on-demand services.

The deployment, set to begin next month, will eventually reach more than 1 million subs served by the consortium. Financial terms were not disclosed.

HOT sees VOD as a competitive foil to wield against DBS.

"We are working to provide our subscribers throughout Israel with the most advanced television applications like on-demand, which satellite just can't match," said Ram Belinkov, HOT's CEO.

The deployment will incorporate SeaChange's MediaCluster servers and automation software. The cable platform will also support digital set-tops from Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB), Samsung and Thomson, middleware from OpenTV, and conditional access systems from NDS Group and Nagra.
