BigBand Networks Inc. said it will help operators make the push to all-digital with a new encoder outfitted with programmable encoding architecture from upstart firm EGT Inc.
BigBand said the BRE20 digital video encoding platform complements its BMR and BME platforms, extending digital functionality and efficiency benefits to content with analog origination. The result, BigBand said, could aid operators in their transition to an all-digital environment via digital simulcast.
The BRE20 is designed to encode two analog video feeds in separate, hot-swappable modules.
"BigBand Networks' business value propositions and technological strengths are very consistent with those of EGT, positioning us well to collaborate on the cable market's most vital current initiatives, such as implementation of digital simulcasting," said EGT CEO Greg Nicholson, in a release.
