SES Americom 's AMC-11 satellite launched successfully Wednesday evening from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, establishing the second half of SES Americom's "HD-Prime Cable Neighborhood" at 131 degrees west longitude.
AMC-11 is scheduled to go into full service operation by early November.
SES Americom turned up the first half of HD-Prime, AMC-10, earlier this month. That bird resides at 135 degrees W.L. The AMC-10 and AMC-11 satellites are C-band based and replace the Satcom C-3 spacecraft.
The new satellites are optimized for HDTV programming. Programmers already on board include Viacom, A&E Television Networks, C-SPAN, Court TV, Crown Media, Discovery Communications, E! Networks, InDemand, Lifetime Entertainment, NBC, QVC, Scripps Networks and The Weather Channel.
