Scientific-Atlanta Inc. is dialing into voice over IP with a new program addition to its SciCare Broadband Services arm.
SciCare, the cable gear maker's service bureau unit, has added a VoIP program to help cable operators launch voice service. The services include project planning, assessment of the cable company's data network, design, preliminary equipment assembly and testing, installation, employee training and post-installation support.
The new program is designed to help cable operators get out of the blocks faster with new VoIP service rollouts.
"As the business model and technology prove themselves, we think the competitiveness of the emerging voice service marketplace will make speed to market for VoIP applications a critical factor for cable operators," said Rob Polak, SciCare director of service operations at Scientific-Atlanta. "With the limited availability of people who have the technical understanding of VoIP deployment in HFC networks, cable operators need a resource to fill that void and that's where we can join with them to provide this vital component to help them have a successful launch of voice services."
