Qwest Communications, already playing catch-up with cable on the high-speed front, will try to stay in stride on bundled home networking with the introduction of a new DSL modem with integrated Wi-Fi capabilities.
Qwest said it will make Wi-Fi standard in all modems offered to new DSL customers. Cable operators have had access to integrated cable modem gateways with Wi-Fi for more than a year.
Qwest's offer, though, is in the form of the Actiontec Wireless DSL Gateway, a device based on 54 Mbps 802.11g technology. The telco is selling the wireless-ready model for $59.99. Customers can also rent it for $3 per month.
