Scripps Networks will deploy Motorola Broadband 's DigiCipher II video compression platform to launch a West Coast digital feed for Home & Garden Television. Scripps also uses the platform for Food Network, DIY and Fine Living.

"The ability to simply add another digital channel to our existing multiplex while maintaining video quality makes adding the west coast version of HGTV an easy technical decision," said Mike Donovan, vice president of engineering for Scripps Networks.

Compatible with MPEG-2 standards, Motorola's DigiCipher II platform compresses and multiplexes standard- and high-definition TV signals.
