Cable operators that are targeting small- and medium-sized businesses as customers can now take advantage of Scientific-Atlanta 's new Prisma IP E-series metro optical access transport platform products.
In Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) networks, the new E510 and E520 platforms are designed to reduce transport network complexity, simplify management, deliver scalability and help control the cost of offering commercial video, voice and data services.
The U.S. small Business Administration's "2003 State of Small Business Profile" and U.S. Census Bureau statistics report there are 5.6 million small- and medium-sized businesses (under 500 employees) across the U.S., providing a large potential commercial services customer pool for cable operators to serve.
All Prisma IP products offer full support for existing circuit TDM services, including toll grade voice, while providing a migration path to new differentiated packet data services through carrier-grade functionality. The E510 platform provides dual 1-Gigabit per second RPT/RPR ring interfaces; while the E520 platform offers dual 2.5-Gbps RPT/RPR ring interfaces.
Additional Prisma IP metro optical access transport platform products include the C- and M-series platforms, which are designed to handle high volumes of network services and the traffic they create. The new E-series platform and the C- and M-series platforms can be used throughout an RPR ring to match service requirements with the number and types of customers served in areas on the ring.
The Prisma IP platform was jointly developed by S-A and Luminous Networks Inc.
