It's been slow going at times, but TiVo Inc. said it has surpassed the 1 million-subscription milestone for its digital video recording (DVR) service ahead of earlier guidance.
EchoStar Communications, which began giving away DVR technology to new subs earlier this year, eclipsed that mark in September.
TiVo said it expects to have one of the best holiday seasons in the company's history. TiVo was founded in 1997.
"Thanks to the increased growth of both our standalone subscriptions and, especially, growth with DirecTV, we have reached this milestone ahead of plan," said TiVo CEO Michael Ramsay.
TiVo is currently selling its standalone Series2 DVR at retail for $199 after a $50 mail-in rebate.
