Cox Communications said it now offers high-definition television services to 62 percent of its homes passed after adding nine markets since February 2003.
That latest Cox markets to join the ranks of the cable HD-ready are: Orange County, Calif.; New Orleans, La.; Santa Barbara, Calif.; Wichita, Kan.; Tulsa, Okla.; Bakersfield, Calif.; North Carolina; New England; and the Ft. Walton Beach area of Gulf Coast Florida.
Cox also offers HD in Omaha, Neb.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Northern Va.; San Diego, Calif.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Cleveland, Ohio.
In addition to available broadcast programming, Cox's HD lineup also includes content from HBO, Showtime, Discovery, ESPN and InDemand's iN HD.
Cox plans to offer the service to 85 percent of its homes passed by year-end.
