Steve Silva will join Comcast Cable on Sept. 2 as vice president of new business development, a newly created position.
In his new role, Silva — who left Charter Communications earlier this year, serving most recently as executive vice president and chief technology officer — will spearhead the identification and development of new businesses for Comcast's broadband platform.
There, he will collaborate with the MSO's engineering, marketing and operations divisions and work across the company's video, data and telephony product lines. Silva will relocate to the Philadelphia area and report to Comcast Cable President Steve Burke.
"With the integration with AT&T Broadband well under way and most of the company ready for advanced services, we feel it is time to accelerate the rollout of new business opportunities," Burke said, in a release. "We are very pleased to have someone as talented and experienced as Steve Silva join our team to help turn opportunities into real businesses."
Silva had been with Charter since 1995. Before that, he worked for CableData (now part of DST Innovis). Earlier this year, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers announced that Silva will chair the program subcommittee for the 2004 Cable-Tec Expo, set to run June 15–18, in Orlando, Fla.
Charter disclosed Silva's resignation last month in a Securities and Exchange Commission document, citing that he left for "personal reasons."
