Adding a touch of personalization to video-on-demand, SeaChange International has launched a new recording system that enables cable operators to offer local news, sports and live events all on-demand.

An extension of SeaChange's flagship VOD system, the new capability will allow operators to capture certain broadcast programs and prepare them for on-demand distribution.

Comcast Corp. has already deployed the new recording system in Philadelphia, where the MSO is offering on-demand access to NHL Flyers games and NBC news programs such as "Dateline," "NBC Nightly News," "Meet The Press" and newscasts from local NBC affiliate WCAU-TV.

SeaChange's recording system is powered by software designed to automate the process of capturing video content from broadcast sources and propagating those assets to video servers. SeaChange offers one of several systems that enable operators to record and distribute local and live programming for playback in "network DVR" fashion. One example is N2 Broadband's "Xport platform."
