Streaming media technology developer Envivio Inc. and Mexican cable operator Opcion Cable sa de cv will work together to create and distribute a streaming network based on Envivio's MPEG-4 products to provide live and VOD programming to cable operators throughout Mexico.

Opcion Cable will use Envivio as its exclusive supplier of MPEG-4 products and services as it develops a hybrid cable television network referred to as the "Triple Play." Triple Play broadband services include television, telephony and Internet access and will allow consumers to experience e-commerce, interactive video-on-demand, educational programming, along with telephone services and broadband Internet access. The product will be marketed through The Mexican Association of Public Networks (AMRED), a non-profit trade association, to its more than 200 members who make up the majority of Mexico's cable television operators.

A demonstration of the Triple Play was shown at AMRED's annual conference in Cancun, Mexico this week. Live programming supplied via satellite feeds from Mexico City and Cancun were streamed to the local headend and distributed to IP-enabled set-top boxes running the EnvivioTV player.

The Envivio product suite includes various components to create, encode, protect and distribute MPEG-4 content. EnvivioTV is also being customized for various set-top box manufacturers.
