Looking to expand its high-speed Internet, data and integrated service portfolio, PowerNet Global Communications is snatching up almost all of Aleron's assets.

PowerNet intends to operate the assets as a separate unit, dubbed Aleron Broadband Services LLC. The unit, which will conduct business out of Aleron's Herndon, Va. location, will offer customers high-speed Internet access, IP network services and wholesale dial access services. PowerNet does not anticipate an staff reductions.

PowerNet plans to expand the Aleron Broadband backbone network to additional tier-2 and tier-3 cities in the United States. The company also intends to add new voice over IP services for residential and business customers.
