Digital home entertainment start-up Ucentric Systems said it has completed its initial phase of service operator trials, and is preparing a third-generation of its software platform for cable deployments in the second half of this year.

Though Ucentric's focus is on software for set-top boxes and media servers, the company has supplied prototype hardware to trial participants, including Canada's Rogers Cable Inc., Comcast Corp. and AT&T Broadband.

Using wireless and wireline home networking protocols, Ucentric's platform is designed to funnel video, voice and data applications to multiple screens in consumer homes. Among Ucentric's initial findings, the company said consumers expressed the greatest interest in entertainment applications such as multiple-TV PVR, which could generate as much as $15 for two TVs and $5 for each incremental TV per month for service operators.
