Know any of the industry's unsung heroes? The National Cable & Telecommunications Association is calling for nominations for its 2002 Vanguard Awards.

"Each year, we seek to bestow Vanguard Awards upon individuals who've had a real impact on the success of our business," says NCTA President and CEO Robert Sachs, in a statement. "While some winners are high-profile executives, others are unsung heroes of our industry. That's why it's so important to attract a full range of entries for this very prestigious awards program."

The Vanguards, presented since 1965, go to those who excel in business and in personal commitment to colleagues, and whose accomplishments merit the recognition of the industry, NCTA says.

Categories include the Distinguished Vanguard Award for Leadership — one each for men and women, and the Vanguard for young leadership, programmers, associates and affiliates, science and technology, cable operations management, government and community relations, and marketing.

Normally presented at the close of the National Show, this year, the NCTA will present the awards during a May 7 evening reception at the NCTA's 51st Annual convention and International Exposition in New Orleans, it says.

Winners are chosen by an awards committee comprised of former winners and NCTA board members.

Nominations are due on or before Feb. 28, NCTA says.
