The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers' Hybrid Management Sub-Layer (HMS) subcommittee has produced and adopted its first three standards linked to outside plant monitoring: HMS 005, HMS 004 and HMS 022.
HMS 005 addresses the physical layer specification, HMS 004 refers to the MAC layer specification, and HMS 022 handles the power supply-to-transponder interface specification.
It's expected that the SCTE Engineering Committee will approve the standards and release them to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) before the end of the year. ANSI could approve the standards by Feb. 2002, SCTE said.
Earlier this year, SCTE expanded its standardization efforts by adding several high-profile specs to its plate, including DOCSIS, PacketCable, OpenCable and the Open Cable Application Platform (OCAP). To further those goals, Steve Oksala joined SCTE as its VP of standards in January.
