NCTA President Robert Sachs called for members to include public service announcements from the American Red Cross in their cable systems. The ads promote grief counseling and solicit donations for relief efforts.
The industry-wide public service ad campaign is intended to supplement individual contributions from the industry. NCTA is asking national and regional cable networks to include the PSAs in cablecasts, and cable operators to insert them in local programming.
All four 30-second PSAs run one after another, says spokesman Marc Smith. NCTA provided a time each day that the series could be uplinked. Today's uplink is 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET on Telstar 7 Transponder, C-Band, 10. Tomorrow's runs 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET on Galaxy 11, Transponder, C-Band, 8; and Friday's from noon to 12:30 on Galaxy 11, Transponder, C-Band, 8.
NCTA says it may uplink additional disaster relief PSAs. Meantime, it's asking cablers to track when and how often they run the PSAs, so they can let the Red Cross know "how many times the PSAs are run by each company."
