Following its formal introduction at this year's Cable-Tec Expo, Jedai Broadband Networks Inc. took another step forward today with the unveiling of its business-class architecture for cable operators.
Targeting mid-sized businesses and high-margin data, video and voice services, Jedai's "IP WaveFront" architecture will move beyond SOHOs to target mid-sized businesses through a wide line of home-grown, IP-edge intelligence gear, said Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Tony Pierson.
That system is comprised of optical network terminals, optical gateways, headend terminals and other equipment.
To keep cable operator expenses in check, Jedai is taking a "success-based" capital approach in which businesses are connected to the network only after they sign up for services. The company estimates that the cost per customer, including equipment and construction, will run in the range of $8,000 to $10,000 - figures the company believes are still low enough for cable operators to quickly turn that investment into a lucrative business.
Though the protection element of Jedai's equipment is proprietary, the equipment is being designed with standards-based interfaces such as Gigabit Ethernet. In addition to wired-based equipment, Jedai also is developing its own line of free-space optics gear to help operators tap into neighborhoods not reached by cable lines.
Though Jedai declined to reveal customer names, company officials said between two to three top MSOs are on-board for field trials.
