WideOpenWest recently announced that the Federal Trade Commission has granted early termination of the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act for its proposed acquisition of the Ameritech New Media cable TV systems in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. With this grant, WideOpenWest may proceed with the acquisition without further FTC or Attorney General review.
Additionally, the company announced that 11 municipalities have already adopted resolutions to transfer their cable TV franchise agreements with Ameritech New Media to WideOpenWest. Franchise transfers were approved in Crestwood, Robbins, and DuPage County, Illinois; in Garfield Heights, Riverlea, Prairie Township, Westlake, Valleyview, and Franklin Township, Ohio; and in Clinton Township and Utica, Mich.
WideOpenWest signed an agreement on May 23 with Ameritech New Media to purchase Ameritech's cable television systems operating in the metro areas of Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus and Detroit. The transaction is expected to close during the fourth quarter of this year, pending approval of each local franchise authority.
