Alcatel, Corning Inc. and Optical Solutions are forming a Fiber-to-the-Home Council. The purpose of the group is to provide education and to promote and accelerate the deployment of fiber-to-the-home systems in North America. Membership will be open to companies in telecommunications, computing, networking, system integration and content provider businesses, as well as telecommunications service providers, utilities, municipalities and real-estate developers. The FTTH Council plans to hold its first meeting August 23 in Ithaca, N.Y., where it plans to select a board of directors and ratify its 2001 agenda.
