An industry consortium that includes Alcatel, Corning Inc. and Optical Solutions have formed the Fiber-to-the-Home Council, it was announced today. The aim is to educate, and promote and accelerate deployment of the technology in North America, the council says.
Members come from such industries as telecom, computing, networking, system integration and content-provision. Others will come from utilities, municipalities and real estate development.
Participation is open to companies interested in the technology. The council will elect a board, committee chairpeople and ratify its 2001 agenda at the first meeting in August.
The council says it's landed commitments from several companies to form the council, including Adesta Communications, AFL Telecommunications, American Power Conversion, Atlantic Engineering Group, CopperCom Inc., Financial Strategies Group LLC, iWired Inc., Lightwaves Communications Systems Inc., Network Telco Inc., Nexans, Optical Solutions, Pirelli Communications Cables & Systems NA, Science Applications International Corp., Sumitomo Electric Lightwave, Team Fishel, Wave7 Optics Inc. and World Wide Packets.
