TV Cabo Portugal SA will plans to launch its interactive cable TV service — including DVR — in Lisbon, Portugal, on June 7. The service, powered by Microsoft's TV software, has been through trials and is expected to be commercially available to provide DVR, t-commerce, t-banking, e-mail and high-speed Internet.

TV Cabo plans to use Microsoft's TV Advanced software initially on set-top boxes from Octal TV. The software will operate on Microsoft's TV server, a headend solution designed to provision, manage and operate a large-scale, commercial-grade ITV service, TV Cabo says.

Plans include offering VOD in the not-too-distant future and using set-top boxes from Pace Technology.

The announcement comes after one last week, where Globo Cabo SA launched trials of cable-based ITV services in Brazil, using Microsoft's TV Basic Digital middleware, software for current generation set-top boxes.

The trial was to begin this month in Sorocaba, Sao Paulo.
