ISurfTV made a deal with National Cable Television Cooperative to develop and market a turnkey interactive program guide.
The deal takes iSurfTV's SurfGuide technology to NCTC's 1,300-member group, representing more than 13 million cable subscribers, iSurfTV reports.
ISurfTV will create a standardized IPG template that can be customized for each member MSO, letting the membership quickly deploy an advanced interactive program guide at what iSurfTV calls a reasonable cost.
"We're trying to find an alternative for members looking for an interactive guide," NCTC VP of Member Services Dan Mulvenon told CEDaily.
The letter of intent outlines the process, he adds. ISurf has shown the not-for-profit "a number of interfaces that this could take." ISurf will test the products with various members and NCTC will choose the one most popular with the majority. This template can be customized by a member if desired, Mulvenon says.
No word on costs, which are to be negotiated in a master agreement after testing, or on timelines, although Mulvenon says he hopes to have more details worked out by June. Mulvenon says NCTC is also looking at products from other guide companies.
