The Broadband Wireless Internet Forum (BWIF) is in the process of reviewing proposals from major technical labs to test equipment for the wireless transmission of high-speed voice, data and video. Manufacturers will submit their equipment to the laboratory selected by BWIF for testing, and if the equipment meets stringent requirements established by the Forum, the manufacturers will then be entitled to label their equipment "BWIF Certified."
BWIF members from Europe, North America and Asia support a uniform wireless standard because it will speed adoption of new technologies, while allowing for innovations. The specific standard supported by BWIF members, says BWIF Chairman Ender Ayanoglu, is designed to offer exceptional broadband transmission quality for data, voice and video at relatively low cost. Compared to wired systems, installation is much simpler and far less disruptive to individuals, businesses and communities.
