Microtune Inc. announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a patent for its cable modem single-conversion tuner. The patent, number 6,169,569, protects the fundamental architecture of Microtune's cable modem tuners that employ low-cost, low-power, single-conversion tuning methods. In addition, the patent encompasses any cable modem that uses such single-conversion cable modem tuners.
Microtune's single-conversion tuner technology delivers the high performance, lower power and low cost required by current and future cable applications, including those based on DOCSIS, according to the company.
To date, the single-conversion architecture has been integrated into more than 5 million cable modem tuners that Microtune has shipped within the last two years. Microtune's patented technology has also served as the tuner core in products for two-thirds of the manufacturers that have received DOCSIS certification in one or more of their cable modem models, according to Microtune.
