  • PowerTV has announced agreements with four computer printer manufacturers to capitalize on the escalating consumer demand for printing Internet e-mail via interactive TV. The agreement calls for PowerTV to develop the architecture, technical requirements and implementation plan to support printer hardware and software on PowerTV-powered set-tops with USB support and third-party applications using the PowerTV Operating System (OS).
  • The printer cable will connect into the digital set-top's USB port, making it "plug-and-play" ready. The PowerTV OS will automatically recognize and load the correct printer driver from the network, without any action required from the subscriber. Subscribers using their remote control keys will print from their TV screens, similar to the way they print from their PCs.
  • The printing architecture, which is designed to work with printers from multiple manufacturers, will benefit printer manufacturers, subscribers and application developers who are working to enable printing from the next generation of iTV applications.
