Clearwire board likes new Sprint bid

Only hours before Clearwire’s shareholders were scheduled to vote Tuesday on Sprint’s offer to buy the nearly half of Clearwire it doesn’t already own, Sprint boosted the offer. Sprint’s new bid of $3.40 per share represents a 14 percent premium over the previous offer of $2.97 per share.
Report: Wi-Fi scores well in hometowns, but work a challenge
May 22, 2013 12:24 pm | by Mike Robuck | News | CommentsAccording to a recent study by Wi-Fi vendor Ubiquiti Networks, Wi-Fi users are generally pleased with how their networks perform in their hometowns, but not so much in their work environments. The study found that 48 percent of the users surveyed gave their Wi-Fi a “B” grade for its general availably and performance in their hometowns.
Report: Carrier Wi-Fi heats ups

According to a recent report by Infonetics Research, carrier Wi-Fi equipment revenue, including carrier Wi-Fi access points and Wi-Fi hotspot controllers, increased 53 percent worldwide in 2012 from 2011.
Actiontec to build screencast boxes supporting Intel WiDi

WiDi is already built into Intel’s current Core processors, and the company said it has integrated the technology in its forthcoming fourth-generation Core processors as well.
Cranky broadcasters could get their licenses yanked

Fox CEO Chase Carey last month vowed to pull Fox off the air and distribute exclusively through pay TV services if Aereo were allowed to proceed with its current business model.
Comcast shores up services in Superstorm Sandy area

Along the Jersey Shore communities, Comcast has upgraded 144 miles of its infrastructure and plans on offering new services in the area over the coming months.

Samsung testing 5G 100 times faster than 4G

Samsung's transceiver transmits data in the millimeter-wave band at a frequency of 28 GHz at a speed of up to 1.056 Gbps to a distance of up to 2 kilometers.

Comcast's Q1 fueled by price hikes

It lost 60K basic video subs, but increased its broadband subscriber count by 433,000 in the quarter. It also added 211,000 new voice customers.
TWC changes Twitter customer care handle

Comcast bows faster gateway; doubles speeds on 2 data tiers

According to research by Allion USA, Comcast’s new gateway more than tripled the speeds of competing wireless gateways from AT&T and Verizon.
TWC boots up free Wi-Fi in Austin

There are currently several dozen access points deployed in Austin to date, but the cable operator plans on having up to 1,000 go live this year.
