AT&T reported its U-verse TV and Internet service reached 10 million subscribers during the third quarter, with one of the biggest gains in TV viewers in the history of the service. AT&T's third-quarter profit and revenue increased as the nation's largest telecommunications company added more smartphone and broadband subscribers.
Comcast has launched its Xfinity WiFi service in Utah by lighting up 900 access points in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Provo and other cities along the Wasatch Front. Comcast also recently announced it had turned on 300 hotspots in the Kansas City area, which is also served in some areas by Time Warner Cable’s Wi-Fi service.
Miami Dolphin fans at Sun Life Stadium can keep track of game statistics and their social networking endeavors thanks to the installation of 1,100 AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots. To complement the Wi-Fi access points, AT&T also installed its distributed antenna system (DAS) technology at Sun Life Stadium, which provides cell service equivalent to 16 individual cells sites.
Verizon's third-quarter net income jumped 40 percent as the largest U.S. mobile phone carrier continued to add more wireless devices to its network. Verizon earned $2.23 billion, or 78 cents per share, up from $1.59 billion, or 56 cents per share, in the same quarter of 2012.

CTI Towers, which is backed by Comcast Ventures, announced this morning that it had received $30 million in debt financing to build its war chest for future acquisitions. CTI Towers also said that it had completed its first third-party acquisition with the purchase of five towers from a major wireless carrier.

Time Warner Cable has expanded its fiber footprint in the Southeast by reaching an agreement to buy DukeNet Communications for $600 million in cash. Time Warner Cable reached the agreement, which included the repayment of debt, with Duke Energy Corporation and investment funds managed by Alinda Capital Partners, both of which had 50 percent stakes in DukeNet.
BlackBerry is reportedly discussing selling itself whole or piecemeal with Google, Cisco and SAP. Should any of those companies decided to bid on Blackberry, they will have to compete with the $4.7 billion offer that Fairfax Financial has already put forth to take BlackBerry private.
Time Warner Cable held a press event in Austin this morning to announce that its TWC WiFi service was available across 900 hotspots. Earlier this week, AT&T announced it would have a 1 Gbps service available next year in Austin, which also roughly coincides with a Google Fiber’s 1 Gig service launch in Austin.

Dish Network is petitioning the FCC for waiver of certain technical rules governing a terrestrial deployment on its 20 MHz of AWS-4 spectrum as well as a one-year extension for that deployment. In return for the FCC granting the waiver and time extension, Dish has promised to bid in the upcoming H Block auction for the paired 1915-1920 MHz and 1995-2000 MHz bands.

BlackBerry today announced that it has agreed to sell itself for $4.7 billion to a consortium ed by Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, which plans on taking the Canadian OEM private. BlackBerry shareholders would receive $9 in cash for each share of BlackBerry that they hold.
AT&T has recieved final FCC approvel of its acquisition of Atlantic Tele-Network, Inc.’s U.S. retail wireless assets operated under the Alltel brand. As part of the deal, AT&T acquired wireless properties in six states, including spectrum licenses, network assets, retail stores and approximately 590,000 subscribers.
Liberty Global executive Peter Dorr raised the possibility of creating a pan-European Wi-Fi network that would be free to cable subscribers. Dorr also spoke about the ease with which Liberty Global was able to update its Horizon multi-screen service, which is based on ActiveVideo’s cloud-based technology.
Wi-Fi provider Boingo Wireless today announced that the company will acquire Advanced Wireless Group, the second largest airport Wi-Fi provider in the United States. Boingo said the expanded reach allowed by the acquistion will accelerate the process of bringing new products to market.

Oceanic Time Warner Cable announced this morning that it has started to deploy Wi-Fi hotspots in Hawaii. Starting today, Time Warner Cable subscribers with Standard Internet or above data tiers that live in Oahu can access more than 400 hotspots across the island.
