Superstorm Sandy rains on Cablevision’s earnings

Cablevision’s fourth quarter subscriber numbers and revenue took a hit in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. The nation’s fifth-largest cable operator lost about 50,000 video subscribers, 5,000 data customers and 10,000 voice subscribers in the fourth quarter.

TDS forges deal to buy Baja Broadband

The small cable operator market continues its wave of consolidation. Yesterday TDS Telecom announced a deal to buy all of the assets of Baja Broadband. Baja Broadband, which is headquartered in Alamogordo, New Mexico, offers triple play services to residential and business customers in parts of Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Utah.

Charter Communications said its residential customer relationships increased by 20,000 during the fourth quarter of 2012, compared to the year-ago period, which CEO Tom Rutledge said was the best Q4 performance at the company in 10 years.

Frontier reports flat Q4

Frontier Communications reported fourth-quarter 2012 revenue of $1.2 billion, slightly down from the similar quarter last year, and net income of $24.9 million. During the quarter, the company reported having lost approximately 50,400 customers.

Time Warner Cable Business Class has broadened the reach of its fiber-optic network in North Carolina in order to offer schools systems a gigabit-per-second service. TWCBC is the largest school data provider in North Carolina, serving 25 school systems across the state.

Windstream returns to profit in Q4

Windstream posted fourth-quarter net income of $10.1 million, reversing a year-ago loss, as the company grew its broadband business. Windstream, which was spun off from Alltel, has been transforming its business to provide more lucrative broadband and data services.

Kansas House approves telecom deregulation bill

Comcast all in on NBCUniversal; broadband subs drive Q4

Comcast announced that it was buying out General Electric’s 49 percent stake in NBCUniversal for $16.7 billion instead of waiting until next year’s previously scheduled date of July to take full control of NBCUniversal. Comcast earned $1.52 billion, or 56 cents per share, in the fourth quarter.

Ohio telco adopts Adtran’s video platform
