Cox Communications and Verizon stood out for their wireline services in the recently released J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Business Study. Cox Communications was first in the large enterprise business category for overall customer satisfaction index scores while Verizon placed second.

Business announced this morning that it had streamlined and expanded its business service delivery team to better serve small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), enterprise and wholesale communications customers across its 19 markets. WOW Business’ 60-member service delivery team has doubled since the same time frame a year ago, and recently moved into a national service delivery center in Huntsville, Ala.
Following a recent conversion to all digital, Charter Communications has launched its Charter Spectrum brand in more communities in Southern California. The new digital services included a free speed upgrade from up to 30 Mbps on the downstream to 60 Mbps for most of the MSO’s subscribers in the area.
Cisco said Wednesday that it will lay off up to 6,000 workers, or 8 percent of its workforce, as part of a restructuring. The company, which makes routers, switches and software, said the layoffs will affect workers in operations around the world.
As part of a partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), all of Time Warner Cable’s 18,000 cable technicians across its footprint can now receive AMBER alerts. Along with the new technology that allows them to receive the AMBER alerts, the techs will receive training on how to be on the look out during an alert and to contact law enforcement if they see an abducted child.
Comcast and NBCUniversal have hired 3,000 veterans since January of 2012 as part their ongoing partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s “Hiring Our Heroes” initiative. NBCUniversal and Comcast’s goal was to hire 2,000 veterans through the program by 2015.
Mediacom Communications and CSG International have extended their 15-year partnership with a new multi-year contract extension. With the new deal, Mediacom will broaden the end-to-end customer care and billing solutions provided by CSG to expand beyond triple play services into home automation and other lines of business.

MetroCast Communications has fired up a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service in two communities that it serves in Mississippi. The recent FTTH deployments in the Mississippi towns of Starkville and Oxford followed on the heels of a deployment in Carthage, Mississippi earlier this year.

Comcast has signed a new contract with CSG International that provides the cable operator with CSG’s residential billing services through June 30, 2019. While CSG has worked with Comcast for the past 20 years, the new contract provides the framework for Comcast to consolidate all of its residential business onto CSG’s billing platform.
Time Warner Cable CEO Rob Marcus outlined several of the company’s top priorities during this morning’s second quarter earnings call, which included the announcement that seven cities are slated to receive TWC Maxx network upgrades next year. TWC Maxx, which features 300 Mbps on the downstream, will touch down in Charlotte, Dallas, Hawaii, Kansas City, Raleigh, San Antonio and San Diego.

Midcontinent’s goals included improving the customer experience, exceeding 2014 customer expectations of service and providing ongoing metrics.
Cable industry pioneer Steve Simmons was elected to Cablevision’s board of directors effective immediately. Simmons joined the board as an independent director and his election increased Cablevision’s board to 18 members. Simmons, 68, has been chairman and chief executive officer of Simmons Patriot Media & Communications since 2002.
Sprint opened its new fiscal year with a rare quarterly profit. The carrier called a $23 million net income and $519 million operating income the highest in seven years. The black numbers came on fiscal first-quarter earnings per share of $0.01 and revenue of $8.78 billion, both of which exceeded analyst estimates.
Charter Communications is looking to cross off the former Bresnan, and Optimum, systems from its all-digital checklist once the conversion kicks off in Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. Charter’s stated goal is to have its all-digital upgrades completed across its entire 29-state footprint by the end of this year, with the former Bresnan systems scheduled for completion in November.
Texas-based Grande Communications has extended its nearly 15-year relationship with CSG International by signing a new multi-year deal. Under the new extension, Grande will work with CSG to implement additional solutions to provide “a holistic IT landscape to support subscribers in Texas.”
Bright House Networks Enterprise Solutions has introduced Unified Communications (UC) as a feature for its Hosted Voice services. The enhancements include video calling, instant messaging and presence, desktop sharing, and web collaboration.
RCN Business is continuing its partnership with the Citi Open tennis tournament in Washington D.C. by provisioning video, Internet and wireless services for the matches. RCN Business is providing connectivity for live-streaming of all matches during the tournament, a service available to viewers via the Citi Open web site. RCN Business is also supporting the work of the tourney’s staff.
Comcast Wholesale and the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) announced this morning the renewal of a multi-year agreement for the HITS National Authorization Service (NAS), which included support for universal digital terminal adapters (uDTAs.) With NAS, NCTC cable operator members can reduce the cost associated with their live, on demand and IP services through a centrally managed platform.
Wyoming-based Sweetwater Cable TV has signed a multi-year agreement to use GLDS’ (Great Lakes Data Systems’) solutions to support its triple play services. Great Lakes Data Systems’ WinCable is a billing and service-provisioning platform that’s used by small to medium-sized broadband service providers. It offers tools to manage FTTH, digital video, VoIP, high-speed Internet and other services.
Jones/NCTI announced this morning that it had inked an agreement with Houston-based enTouch to provide enTouch a suite of learning tools for its field and call center frontline employees. The new enterprise platform includes Jones/NCTI’s in-depth course material, mobile learning application and career path development tools, as well as its LogiCall customer service support.
Shares of Amazon.com Inc. fell Thursday after the e-commerce retailer reported a deeper-than-expected second quarter loss as expenses outpaced a surge in revenue. Amazon has long focused on spending the money it makes to grow and expand into new areas. In one of its most high-profile moves, Amazon is introducing its own smartphone, the Fire, which starts selling Friday.
Rogers Communications Inc. has reported a lower second-quarter net income of $405 million, or 76 cents per diluted share, while the telecom company struggled to add more wireless customers. Net profit was down 24 per cent from $532 million, or 93 cents, in the same quarter of 2013.
Charter Business is going after small businesses in its footprint by offering to buy out the early termination fees that are associated with switching to the cable operator. The buyout allows businesses that are locked into contracts to make the switch to Charter Business without bearing the brunt of the termination fees.
