Time Warner Cable will start sending video to some Samsung Smart TVs later this summer. Using the cable operator’s TWC TV app, Time Warner Cable subscribers will have access to 5,000 on demand titles from nearly 100 networks without the need for a set-top box.
Mediacom Communications has joined the ranks of cable operators that are offering a home automation service to their subscribers. Mediacom, the eighth-largest cable operator in the nation, has joined Comporium Communications’ security, monitoring and automation (SMA) dealer program to deliver the home automation service across its footprint.
Arris nabbed two customer wins with Comcast for its XGI gateway and the vendor’s E6000 Converged Edge Router (CER). The XGI was based on the Comcast Reference Design Kit (RDK), which Comcast developed to speed up the rate of innovation on set-top boxes and gateways.
John Malone’s Liberty Global announced this morning that it had completed its $24 billion deal to buy Virgin Media. Denver-based Liberty Global first announced it was buying Virgin Media in a stock and cash deal back in February. Since then Liberty Global has ran the gauntlet of gaining regulatory and stockholder approvals, as well as wrapping up the closing conditions that were associated with the deal.
ActiveVideo has shifted its cloud platform into overdrive with today’s announcement that it can deliver TV as an application over IP along with the news that it’s behind Charter Communications’ cloud-based user interface. ActiveVideo also said it has partnered with Sumitomo Corporation to target cloud-based deployments in Japan and in the Asia-Pacific market

Time Warner Cable’s home automation and security system, IntelligentHome, will make its way into the cable operator’s Ohio and Wisconsin service areas this month and then New York City in the fall. Once those launches are complete, Time Warner Cable said IntelligentHome would be deployed across all of the major markets in its footprint.
Bright House Networks has updated its “easy gadget” utilities app to include unlimited two-way SMS text messaging for free. With the update, Bright House Networks subscribers can send text messages to and receive text messages from any mobile phone in the United States and other easy gadget users using their Bright House Networks home or business phone numbers.
Numericable, which is France’s largest cable operator, has selected Casa Systems C10G cable modem termination system (CMTS) to support the deployment of its 100 Mbps data tier and VoIP service. Usin the C10G puts Numericable on the evolutionary pathway to the cable industry’s CCAP architecture that combines an edge QAM and CMTS onto one dense platform.

Dish Network has raised its bid for Clearwire to $4.40 per share, representing a 29 percent premium over the revised offer of $3.40 per share Sprint last week submitted to the internet wholesaler. The bid caused Clearwire’s stock to skyrocket in after hours trading.
Cisco Systems Inc. said Friday that it has completed a $310 million acquisition of Ubiquisys, a privately held cellphone technology company in the U.K. Cisco said that deal will combine the expertise of both companies to the benefit of service provider customers moving to next-generation radio access networks.
Cox Communications and parent company Cox Enterprises have stepped up to the plate to help customers that were impacted by the tornado that hit the Oklahoma City area on Monday. Cox is offering its TV Everywhere app outside of customers' homes in the affected area.
