Numéricable picks Calix, Arcadiz for broadband business service

Brussels cable operator Numéricable has picked Calix’s GPON technology to upgrade its service delivery platform in Belgium and Luxembourg. Numéricable is also using Calix’s Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) and will work with optical specialist Acradiz Telecom to launch the new business services across the region.

Time Warner Cable spices up home phone service with new features

Time Warner Cable has added VoiceZone to its home phone service, which ties in the phone service to home computers, TVs and mobile devices. VoiceZone is free to Time Warner Cable customers that subscribe to its phone and voicemail services.

Wipro paves way for prepaid broadband

Wipro Technologies introduced a service that will enable cable operators to offer video, broadband and telephony on a prepaid basis. The prepaid approach, which aims to reduce cost and credit obstacles, has proven to be a practical option for many wireless telephony customers, including many in unserved or underserved markets.

Comcast names Fore as regional SVP for California

Henry “Hank” Fore reports to Steve White and oversees Comcast’s video, data and telephone operations in both the Bay area and central California, which serve more than 2.2 million customers. He will also manage more than 5,500 employees.

Comcast wraps Xfinity Home launch in West Virginia

Comcast announced this morning that it had finished launching its Xfinity Home service across its West Virginia footprint. Xfinity Home is Comcast’s set of home security, monitoring and control services. Comcast expects to have Xfinity Home available across all of its footprint by the end of this year.

Arris posts solid Q2 CPE sales, Cisco still leads CMTS pack

Bolstered by DOCSIS 3.0 upgrades in North America, Arris posted strong revenue growth for customer premise equipment in the second quarter of this year while Cisco is still the leader of the pack for cable modem termination revenue.  ZTE edged Huawei to take the No. 1 spot for broadband CPE revenue market share.

 T-Mobile USA's strategy to get back on track after regulators shot down the proposed AT&T merger. The next step appears to be yet another proposed merger, this time with prepaid carrier MetroPCS. Deutsche Telekom on Wednesday confirmed an agreement to combine T-Mobile and MetroPCS.

Charter to move HQ from St. Louis to Stamford, Conn.

Charter Communications is pulling up stakes and moving its headquarters from the St. Louis area to Stamford, Conn over the coming weeks. Charter will transfer the majority of its executive officers, along with members of their staffs, to the new 70,000 square-foot office space at 400 Atlantic Street.

MetroPCS: LTE customers nearing 1M

MetroPCS CEO Roger Linquist said that the prepaid provider has nearly 1 million LTE customers, a number that places one out of every nine customers on its mobile broadband network. Linquist said it at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference in New York.

Mexico’s Megacable, TWC in exploratory talks over phone service

Reuters reported that the talks have taken place, and Megacable chief executive Enrique Yamuni said the conversations to date have centered around a strategic alliance that could allow Time Warner Cable subscribers to receive phone calls from Megacable customers without incurring long-distance charges.
