Pace debuts RDK-based Elements middleware platform

Pace announced today that its Elements middleware platform was now available with full Reference Design Kit (RDK) compatibility. Pace also said it had expanded its relationship with RDK Management by signing up for the RDK Advanced Support Program (ASP) and Media Sponsorship Program (MSP).

Net Servicos picks Humax for HD boxes, gateway

Brazilian service provider Net Servicos has selected South Korea-based Humax as the primary manufacturer for two new set-top boxes and a residential gateway that it will use for its next gen TV services. The HD, two-way interactive set-top boxes are MoCA 2.0 enabled while the residential gateway features DOCSSIS 3.0, eMTA, and 3x3 dual-concurrent 802.11ac Wi-Fi capabilities.

Comcast adding even more features, apps to X1

Comcast’s X1 triple-play customers will eventually be able to live stream personal video from their mobile devices, over the Internet, directly to the television. The feature tops a list of forthcoming enhancements that include changes in the guide, and new apps.

Charter, Comcast strike a multi-pronged deal

The Comcast, Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable triangle has come full circle with today’s news that Comcast and Charter have reached an agreement that included selling off 1.4 million Time Warner Cable subscribers to Charter, swapping 1.6 million subscribers between Comcast and Charter and spinning off 2.5 subs to form a new company.

Verizon: Stormy weather in Q1

Verizon's FiOS TV penetration strategy seems to be running out of steam at the 35 percent mark, but subscriber adds were down in Q1 mostly because people don't want installers in their homes when it's snowing. Google, Apple, Intel and Adobe Systems have settled a class-action lawsuit alleging they conspired to prevent their engineers and other highly sought technology workers from getting better job offers from one another. The agreement announced Thursday averts a Silicon Valley trial that threatened to expose the tactics deployed by billionaire executives to corral less affluent employees. 

Three U.S. operators hosting Netflix on their set-tops

Atlantic Broadband, Grande Communications and RCN are all incorporating the Netflix app directly into their services. The three - all TiVo-based service providers – are the first U.S. MSOs to directly integrate Netflix with their traditional services. European operators Virgin Media and Com Hem were the first to do so.

Verizon Wireless churn ticks up in competitive 1Q

While Verizon's first-quarter earnings remained steady, Big Red's wireless division may finally be feeling the effects of an increasingly competitive market. Verizon Wireless added a lackluster 539,000 postpaid connections, a 20 percent drop when compared to the same quarter last year. 

TWC reports operations improvements in Q1

Subscribers for high-speed Internet connections rose 269,000 during the quarter, the biggest increase in six years, since the first quarter of 2008. The company lost 34,000 cable TV subscribers during the quarter, which it said was its smallest loss in at least five years.

U-verse expands in AT&T's Q1

In AT&T’s first quarter, its landline business revenue fell 0.4 percent to $14.6 billion. But its newer U-verse phone, TV and Internet service saw growth. AT&T had 634,000 additional high-speed Internet subscribers and 201,000 new TV subscribers.

Suddenlink launches mobile app for iOS devices

Suddenlink has launched its Suddenlink2GO mobile app.  Using technology from Synacor, a long-time vendor for the MSO, the app allows customers to watch live TV networks and on-demand TV shows on an iOS tablet anywhere at home or on the go.
