Ensequence said it is launching a new national platform for interactive TV advertising that will debut in the first quarter of 2014. With the new platform, the company is moving to a service model for the first time, attempting to connect advertisers with its customers, which include cable operators, satellite providers, telco distributors and Smart TV manufacturers.

AfterBuzz TV has contracted with Akamai Technologies to distribute its schedule of aftershows, a series of webcasts and podcasts of commentary that immediately follow the broadcast of television shows and televised events. Akamai is delivering the aftershows to iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, as well as to personal computers.
Time Warner Cable is serving up its largest helping of high school football coverage this season across 11 states in its footprint. By the end of the year, TWC SportsChannels will have televised more than 300 games, featuring some 500 high schools in states such as New York, California, Texas, Ohio and the Carolinas.
BSkyB has expanded and upgraded its digital TV testing platform by using a product from S3 Group. BSkyB is now using S3 Group’s StormTest Product Development Center to include HD image handling on its Sky+HD platform. Over the top services (OTT) are affecting the pay TV business. Maybe only a little, but measurably. In the second quarter AT&T and Verizon added video customers (233,000 and 140,000 respectively), but their gains do not even come close to offsetting the subscriber losses experienced by most of the top cable operators and both satellite providers.
To create the AutoHop functionality, Dish technicians in Cheyenne, Wyoming manually view Fox’s primetime programming each night and technologically mark the beginning and end of each commercial. The program content is not altered in any way. The electronically marked files are then uplinked in Wyo., and eventually transmitted to subscribers.
“Reverse retrans” might merit some consideration. The Time Warner Cable / CBS dispute merely underlines what everyone knows: the retransmission consent process is utterly out of control. Some policy wonks are suggesting the solution is to eliminate retrans rules altogether.
ZON Multimedia is set to launch a networked DVR capability for its multi-screen delivery service. Viewers will be able to record content from a range of devices to be viewed up to 7 days later. The capability, essentially a catch-up service, is being enabled by Concurrent’s MediaHawk VX unified content delivery solution.
Akamai Technologies said it has deployed FastTCP broadly across its network, the Akamai Intelligent Platform. FastTCP algorithms are deployed within Akamai edge servers and do not require any software installation on user devices or any action on the part of Akamai’s customers or their site visitors.
Belgacom has selected Edgeware’s Distributed Video Delivery Network (D-VDN) system for multiscreen delivery of both live and on-demand video. Belgacom previously deployed Edgeware IPTV technology to enable a networked PVR (nPVR) service. Belgacom installed Edgeware’s D-VDN alongside its nPVR system this past summer.
According to a recent report, Cisco stretched its lead for enterprise session border control (eSBC) revenue in the recent second quarter. Looking ahead, Infonetics Research forecast the global enterprise SBC market to grow at a 17 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2012 and 2017.
Celeno Communications scored its first 802.11ac-based chip win with iiNet, which is Australia’s second largest DSL broadband provider. Celeno’s chip will be used to provision wireless data and HD streaming services at some point as iiNet Labs develops the company’s next generation hardware.
Arris announced deals with several international customers, including orders from Portugal’s ZON, Stofa in Denmark, and Telenor’s operation in Sweden. The first two have installed Arris' Apex3000, while Telenor has placed an order for IPTV set-tops the Swedish company will begin distributing next year.

Rostelecom in Russia has deployed what may be the world's largest operator content delivery network, according to Ericsson, the company that built the CDN. The Media Delivery Network from Ericsson includes content servers in 30 major cities across all federal districts of Russia.
Tata Communications’ cloud-based video service is now offering the option to encode video using HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding), relying on Harmonic Inc.'s ProMedia file-based transcoding technology. The company's Cloud Transform service enables broadcasters to transcode large libraries of video assets without investing in new hardware or their own onsite private cloud.
