BlackArrow targets ads to IP devices, forges new partnerships

BlackArrow announced the availability of a new product, BlackArrow Linear, that will help cable operators extend live and linear TV programming into IP devices. In tandem with the new product release, BlackArrow also announced partnerships with encoding, transcoding and packaging vendors to create an ecosystem for splicing ads into the live streams.

Comcast blends Cisco’s WebEx into Upware marketplace

Dish ups bid for Clearwire

Dish Network has raised its bid for Clearwire to $4.40 per share, representing a 29 percent premium over the revised offer of $3.40 per share Sprint last week submitted to the internet wholesaler. The bid caused Clearwire’s stock to skyrocket in after hours trading. 


Roku raises $60M from Hearst, News Corp, others

Roku Inc., the streaming video device maker, said Wednesday that it has raised $60 million in its sixth round of funding. Media giant Hearst Corp. and an unnamed institutional investor joined existing backers such as News Corp. and its subsidiary British Sky Broadcasting in the round.

Cablemas adds VOD features, including multiscreen

Cablemás is adopting Conax’s Xtend Multiscreen, which will give the Mexican cable operator the ability to extend the VOD services it has been offering with additional VOD content, and also advanced features such as Catch up, Live TV, nPVR and multiscreen. The Mexican MSO is also adopting enabling products from Evolution Digital, Cubiware, Harmonic and Vubiquity.

Cisco: M2M manifests; video still driving global traffic

According to the company's latest global Internet traffic report, M2M Internet traffic has begun to have a measurable impact on global IP networks. Hillcrest Labs joins Comcast RDK lineup

Add another player to the list of vendors that have signed up to license Comcast’s Reference Design Kit (RDK) with today’s addition of Hillcrest Labs to the RDK lineup. Adara racks up two more customer wins

Adara Technologies announced this morning it had successfully launched its digital video network upgrade platform with two additional service providers—Darien Communications of Georgia and Beaver Creek Telephone (BCT) of Oregon. Bell launches Canada’s first wireless TV receiver

Bell took the wraps of its new Fibe TV Wireless Receiver yesterday, which sends HD quality video services to up to five additional TVs in customers’ homes without the need for more cable runs or the use of existing wall jacks. Bell is laying claim to being the first video provider in Canada to launch a wireless receiver.

Report: Some smart TV owners not connecting to Internet

Verizon kick starts Memorial Day weekend with VOD marathon

Verizon has booted up its “On Demand Marathon,” which is offering its 4.9 million FiOS subscribers free access to 1,700 movies and more than 50 full seasons of TV series. The VOD marathon, which started today and runs through Tuesday, is the single largest free on demand event that Verizon has hosted.


Canoe licenses BlackArrow ad management tool

Cablevision cooks up TVE deal with Scripps

Netflix's Hastings: People don't love linear TV

Speaking in Canada, the Netflix CEO says his biggest challenge there is competition from the likes of Videotron, Rogers and perhaps the combination of Bell and Astral should that merger happen. Total video subs decline for first time

In aggregate, the 13 largest multichannel video program distributors (MVPD) in the U.S. added about 195,000 net additional video subscribers in Q1 2013. But the number of new subscribers in the most recently completed quarter was not enough to offset customer losses in the second and third quarters of 2012.

Dish pushes TVE app into Android devices, social media

Dish Network has updated its TV Everywhere app to include Android devices and more Apple iOS devices and integrated it with Facebook and Twitter. After previously working with just iPads, the satellite video company’s Dish Anywhere app is now live on Android devices (version 4.0 or higher) and all Apple iOS devices that use operating systems that are versions 5.0 or higher.

Spirent takes Casa’s CCAP on a test run

Casa Systems tapped Spirent Communication’s test platform to put its next generation cable modem termination system (CMTS) and integrated converged cable access platform (CCAP) products through their paces. The Spirent TestCenter was used to validate routing performance, asymmetric throughput, latency and packet loss of Casa Systems’ C10G and C3200 platforms.
