AMC Networks Inc. on Thursday reported earnings that decreased by 57 percent in its second quarter, but beat analysts' expectations. The New York-based company said net income fell to $58.7 million, or 81 cents per share, from $135.7 million, or $1.87 per share, in the same quarter one year earlier.
Multiplay in Brazil is the first pay TV operator to certify Arris' DCX525e and to offer the new all-digital box to its subscribers. The box can handle both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 video. It has a 1 GHz tuner, has integrated MediaCipher conditional access.

Comcast has signed on as a client of San Francisco-based Doctor On Demand in order to provide its employees video visits with the healthcare service’s doctors. Comcast plans on integrating Doctor On Demand into its health and wellness offerings and will, for certain plans, fully subsidize employees’ video visits with Doctor On Demand physicians
Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. executives said Wednesday that the company won't try to buy any other big content companies, a day after it called off its pursuit of rival media giant Time Warner Inc. Fox Chief Operating Officer Chase Carey said on a conference call with analysts that "we have no plans to pursue any other third-party content company as an alternative to Time Warner."
Vyve Broadband said it has acquired certain assets of Reach Broadband and all the assets of Lakeview Cable. The acquisitions fill out Vyve’s footprint in Oklahoma. The former Reach and Lakeview systems have already been merged into Vyve's operations.
CenturyLink plans to leapfrog some of its competitors by going straight to symmetrical broadband speeds up to 1 Gbps in 16 markets. The carrier has also been reported to be negotiating with some of the cities, including Portland, Ore., for video franchises.

Comcast has signed a new contract with CSG International that provides the cable operator with CSG’s residential billing services through June 30, 2019. Time Warner Cable CEO Rob Marcus outlined several of the company’s top priorities during this morning’s second quarter earnings call, which included the announcement that seven cities are slated to receive TWC Maxx network upgrades next year. Bright House Networks is now offering residential subscribers in its Central Florida and Tampa Bay areas a new service that was designed to eliminate Wi-Fi “dead zones” in homes. The service, which is called “Echo,” is able to expand Wi-Fi into areas of a home that previously had trouble receiving the signals.
DirecTV on Thursday reported profit that rose by 22 percent in its second quarter, helped by demand for World Cup soccer game coverage, and topped analysts' expectations. The El Segundo, California-based company said earnings increased to $806 million, or $1.59 per share, from $660 million, or $1.18 per share, in the same quarter a year earlier.

Cable industry pioneer Steve Simmons was elected to Cablevision’s board of directors effective immediately. Simmons joined the board as an independent director and his election increased Cablevision’s board to 18 members. Simmons, 68, has been chairman and chief executive officer of Simmons Patriot Media & Communications since 2002.
Alcatel-Lucent said that Telefónica is using its Cloud DVR system to enable the cloud DVR service that Telefónica rolled out in February. A-L also said Telefónica is using its products for a service that gives Telefónica customers the option to select from up to six different streams in sporting events.
Charter Communications is looking to cross off the former Bresnan, and Optimum, systems from its all-digital checklist once the conversion kicks off in Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. Charter’s stated goal is to have its all-digital upgrades completed across its entire 29-state footprint by the end of this year, with the former Bresnan systems scheduled for completion in November.
Texas-based Grande Communications has extended its nearly 15-year relationship with CSG International by signing a new multi-year deal. Under the new extension, Grande will work with CSG to implement additional solutions to provide “a holistic IT landscape to support subscribers in Texas.”
Family entertainment network INSP has added more than 140,000 new subscribers on multiple National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) systems across the country. In April INSP, which is available nationwide via cable, satellite DBS and telcos, reached a multi-year renewal agreement with Time Warner Cable.

Comcast Wholesale and the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) announced this morning the renewal of a multi-year agreement for the HITS National Authorization Service (NAS), which included support for universal digital terminal adapters (uDTAs.) With NAS, NCTC cable operator members can reduce the cost associated with their live, on demand and IP services through a centrally managed platform.
